On the very first day of the new year, I visited the Tailwater West at Coraville to watch one of winter’s most captivating scenes—eagle fishing. While many anglers worked the water, one moment stole all the attention: a juvenile bald eagle, just 1–2 years old, learning to master the hunt.

Still growing and hungry all the time, this young eagle circles patiently above the river, scanning the surface, reading the water, and building confidence. Watch closely as she narrows in on her target, drops with precision, and snatches a small fish—finishing her meal mid-air.
