Описание к видео Sliderule The Tool That Built Our World

Before calculators, before computers, there was the slide rule. This pocket-sized analog computer was the essential tool for every scientist and engineer for over 300 years. It was used to design everything from the Golden Gate Bridge and the Empire State Building to the Saturn V rockets that took humanity to the Moon.

So how did this simple device, with no batteries and no screen, perform the complex calculations needed to create our modern world? And how did it vanish so completely, becoming a forgotten relic in just a single generation?

Join us on Manual Mode as we explore the ingenious history of the slide rule, the intuitive "feel" for numbers it gave its users, and the moment in 1972 when the first pocket calculator sparked "The Great Slide Rule Massacre," wiping out an entire industry overnight.

This is the story of a lost art, a different way of thinking, and a tribute to the incredible power of analog ingenuity.
