How Often Should You Water Succulents

There are so many different answers to this question it can all be quite confusing. But are we all asking the wrong question when it comes to watering succulents.

Now, I get the confusion around succulents and watering. They come from arid environments, often don’t see rain for months and have evolved to store water in their leaves, stems and roots. One may conclude that once every other month or so would be sufficient. And it could work for some succulents but could well cause others to die.

The reason why it’s not that easy to provide a consistent answer is that how often depends on so many factors. But in my opinion, 'how often' is the wrong question. I know people like a routine and perhaps it’s easier to commit to watering when you have set times, but when it comes to succulents the question should really be ‘when do I water’ rather than ‘how often’.

In this video we’ll have a look at why the ‘how often’ is so difficult to answer and see if we can get a somewhat ballpark figure. I’ll also tell you how I water my succulents and why this may be the best way to make sure your succulents get enough, but not too much water no matter the type of succulent or climate you live in.
