BMW has something really hot planned for the next M5. The M division's fastest car is expected to come out sometime in July 2025.
It will have 735 horsepower and 735 pound-feet of torque. Not just one, but four electric motors are helping it this time.
The new M5 is said to have the same drivetrain as the plug-in hybrid XM Label Red SUV. It will still be sold as a sedan, but there are reports that the North American market could get an M5 Touring wagon.
EV mode on the new M5 should get you up to 60 miles if you don't go faster than 87 mph. It will look brand new, and the shiny new metal will hide brand-new parts.
The next generation of the M5 has bigger brakes, rear-wheel steering, and 22-inch wheels that can be ordered separately.
By the time it comes out in 2025, BMW will give us more information.

It wouldn't be a surprise if BMW kept an even more powerful tune for a model like the M5 Competition for its new PHEV sports car.
The M5 has always been a full package. It had all the features of the top-of-the-line 5-series, plus a lot more performance and design changes that gave it more attitude.
Even though the new M5 can be turned into an electric rocket, its mind-boggling speed will stay the same.

There are rumors going around about the next-generation M5, which says the fast 5-series will use the PHEV engine from the 735-hp XM Label Red SUV and send up to 735 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels.
That number shows how much power the BMW M5's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and lithium-ion battery pack can produce together.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is likely to be in the M5, just like it is in the XM Label Red.
The current gas-only M5 went from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds with less power and no help from quick-acting electric motors, so we wouldn't be surprised if the extra horsepower and torque made it go faster.
The PHEV powertrain is thought to add at least 400 pounds, but the new M5 is likely to have bigger brakes and rear-wheel steering, which should make up for the loss of performance.
