Happiness – Why We Shouldn’t Postpone It

When I was younger, I often believed that happiness was something I would finally reach after certain goals were achieved. “Once I finish school, once I make more money, once life becomes stable…” I told myself. But as the years went by, I noticed something strange—every time I reached one goal, another condition took its place. The finish line kept moving further away. It felt as if happiness was always waiting at some distant horizon.

Then one day, I realized: what if happiness isn’t waiting for me at the end? What if it is already here, in the small, ordinary moments I keep overlooking?

In my book, A Road to Wealth and Happiness, I define happiness as the harmony of mind and heart—a state where peace and gratitude flow naturally, regardless of the circumstances we face. Happiness is not measured by wealth alone, but by the richness of how we live, how we love, and how we appreciate life each day.

The Illusion of “Later”

So many of us live with the illusion that happiness belongs to the future. We postpone joy until we earn more, until we fix our flaws, until our children succeed, until life feels perfect. But perfection never comes. Life always carries challenges—bills to pay, relationships to mend, bodies that age, and responsibilities that grow.

When we postpone happiness, we silently rob ourselves of the beauty of now. Children grow up while we are too busy worrying about tomorrow. Loved ones age while we are chasing the next achievement. The seasons change while we wait for the “right moment” to finally feel joy.

But happiness, I discovered, does not wait. It only exists in the present moment. To delay it is to lose it.
