Simple Techniques for shaping a Dog's nose - Coloured Pencil - Beginner Tutorial

Welcome to the tutorial. If you are new to coloured pencils this quick sketch will show you the basic pencil strokes and process that I go through when drawing a dog's nose.

The project takes one hour from start to finish but don't feel that you have to complete the project in that time. You can stop and start the video and take as long as you want.

I will be using a limited number of colored pencils and will demonstrate some simple techniques as I explain:

- The importance of layering to blend colour directly on the paper;
- How to use pencil stokes to create different textures;
- How to transition from one area and value to the next;
- How to create the lighter hairs in the fur; and
- How to use the pencils to adjust and create the dimension to the nose.

An hour in 'coloured pencil years' is not actually that long so we will only be able to go so far with the drawing in the hour. If I had more time I would continue with the techniques that I demonstrate and add more layers, working on the tonal values and filling in the tooth of the paper to make the nose look more dimensional and realistic.
