During the Pre-Qualifying session, Andrea de Cesaris changed to his spare car near the end of the session due to a problem with his differential. The Modena Lamborghinis suffered from a bad set-up as well as Eric van de Poele having gearbox trouble and a blown engine to contend with. Pedro Chaves was hopelessly off the pace with serious gearbox problems and in the end was more than ten seconds slower than Pirro.
