Vellore Institute of Technology (also known as VIT Vellore) is a private deemed University, located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. It was established by G. Viswanathan as Vellore Engineering College in 1984 under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. Vellore Institute of Technology comprises three other campuses located in Bhopal, Chennai and Amaravati, and is run and managed by the VIT Group of Institutes. It is ranked 15, 16 and 28 under the categories of 'Engineering', 'University' and 'Overall', respectively, by the NIRF 2020. Globally, VIT Vellore ranked among the top 301 - 400 universities in the world for Computer Science, by The Times Higher Education World Ranking 2020. VIT Vellore is recognised as an Institution of Eminence by the Govt of India and No. 1 private university for innovation as recognised by ARIIA, Govt of India.

Vellore Institute of Technology is counted among the Top 3% of the world's universities as ranked by QS Global World Ranking. It offers 51 undergraduate, 33 postgraduate, 11 integrated and two each of Research and MTech (Industrial) courses across streams including Engineering, Science, Business Studies, Management, Computer Science, Architecture, Design, Mass Communication, Commerce, Hotel Management and Visual Communication. Additionally, the University has initiated two new UG programmes, namely BTech CSE (specialisation in BlockChain Technology) and BSc (Visual Communication). The University has made its place in the Limca Book of Records for placing the highest number of students in the IT sector for seven consecutive years. Vellore Institute of Technology also offers scholarships to students based on their reserved category. It also offers an exchange programme for the students every year.

Vellore Institute of Technology provides decent infrastructure throughout the university. Spread across a vast area of 372 acres, VIT Vellore has seven academic blocks in the Vellore campus, each specialising in its particular fields. One of the USPs of the Vellore campus is the ‘Anna Audi’ which is able to accommodate as many as 1800+ students. Apart from this, this year, one of the students got selected as Google Women Techmakers Scholar for the Asia Pacifica region.
