A message from Willis-Knighton Health System President and CEO James K. Elrod. The Hospital on the Hill is now open. The WK Rehabilitation Institute. Willis-Knighton Health System's newest hospital, the WK Rehabilitation Institute is now open to the public, representing the fulfillment of a dream to enhance our care to patients and restore landmark building for our community. Those who travel along I-20 frequently can appreciate that just 18 months ago this hospital in its prominent position overlooking I-20 and Line Avenue was an abandoned structure, blighting the cityscape.

Formerly the home of the well respected Doctor's Hospital, the property's only future was considered by many to be a date with a wrecking ball. To Willis-Knighton this building provided a solid core for renovation that could make this iconic campus a beacon at the gateway to downtown Shreveport.

The location and attractive acquisition cost led me to believe that by comprehensively revitalizing the structure we could once again make this site a place of healing and caring and a source of pride for the greater community. The WK Rehabilitation Institute provides comprehensive physical and behavioral rehabilitation as well as outpatient dialysis in a beautiful state of the art facility.

The physical rehabilitation program is the only one in our region to meet the rigid standards required for accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities commonly known as CARF. The opening of the WK Rehabilitation Institute reinforces Willis-Knighton's role as a vital engine for economic growth in Shreveport's inner city neighborhoods, which for many years have been declining.

It has also afforded an opportunity to preserve the legacy of Doctor's Hospital which was established in 1907 and touched countless lives over many decades. Reinvesting in our neighborhoods and honoring cherished legacies are hallmarks of Willis-Knighton Health System that vividly demonstrate our stewardship in a community we are proud to call home.

My hope is that Willis-Knighton Health System's new Hospital on the Hill will serve as a catalyst not only for economic growth, but also for community pride. The WK Rehabilitation Institute demonstrates that a dream indeed can become a reality. Sincerely, James. K. Elrod, President and CEO, Willis-Knighton Health System.
