DC's Very Merry Multiverse Comic Book Review 2020

Welcome back to another comic book review here on Toned In Entertainment. This week DC is going to try and get us in the holiday spirit with the release of a monster 80-Page Giant One-shot comic book with 10 tales of Heroic Holiday Hijinks. Is this comic worth being a stocking-stuffer or are you hoping you were so bad this year that Santa won't deliver you this one. Let's get on with my comic book review for DC's Very Merry Multiverse.

Right off the top we have my favorite story in this issue revolving around Harley Quinn in the story called It's A Horrible Life where she's been greeted by an Angel "In Training" named Layma and instead of taking her back to the past like the movie It's A Wonderful Life, he's going to take Harley on a tour of different Earth's inside DC's multiverse where Harley is going to learn that her present life isn't all that bad, especially after visiting Earth 33 where she would be living her worst nightmare, living as a basic human, selling reality, using Facebook as her daily journal with sipping down pumpkin latte. 

What I really like about this story is the  journey in which the LAYMA goes on and in this story we find out the Wonder Twins might actually have a 3rd wheel.

Two of the stories also worth mentioning are Booster Gold in "'Twas The Night" where Booster Gold will find some way to bring to the employees of a restaurant who have to work through the holidays and the story of Batman in "Christmas By Gaslight" where this holiday looked to be a quite depressing but in the end toys rained down from the Gotham sky and Mr Freeze inadvertently spread some holiday cheer by inadvertently making it snow. 

There's an old saying that sometimes less is more, and unfortunately for this book that statement is very true.

While the first story was fun and got me into the holiday spirit, I quickly felt like I was getting plunked by the Grinch with the stories the Batman Beyond centric story Holidays Beyond and a very disappointing A Very Lobo Hanukkah.

 But by far the worst of the worst in this book was the 6th story featuring The League Of Shadows in Night Of The Magi. 

Not only did it take me completely out of what I was expecting from the theme of this book, but the story on its own just felt tedious I felt Scrooged by this story. 

And while those were by far the 3 worst additions to this book, the stories Prez Rickard's Magical Sci-Fi Desolate Souls Club Holiday Special and Teen Justice in TO STOP THE STAR-CONQUERESS had a lot of potential, ultimately falling right at average.

Now it won't be all gloom as there are two very different stories centering around Bizarro.

One of the stories is called THE UNJUSTICE LEAGUE OF UNAMERICA in HAVE YOURSELF A BIZARRO LITTLE CHRISTMAS that take places of the square planet of Earth-29 where everyone talks like Bizarro and the UNJUSTICE league, especially Flaszarro has really let themselves go. And when Zanta of the Intergalactic Santa Corps invades their world the Unjustcie League will do everything in their power to make sure they keep  having Crappy Holidays for years to come.

And while I enjoyed that Bizarro story, I enjoyed President Superman in Bizarro Love Holiday even more. 

This story takes place on Earth-23 where Superman has created a special two-day holiday called the Celebration of Rapport. )ruh-por)

Day one is all about giving and day 2 is about receiving. And while the citizens of this planet are united in harmony at least for these 2 days of the year, there is one that has alway been left out, and that being Bizarro. 

However throughout this story Bizarro will make new friends, and will have a bad time. Actually the worst time ever. And he wouldn't have it any other way. 

Now for my final score of DC's Very Merry Multiverse I'm going to give it a 5 out of 10. With a $10 price tag, it's a pricey book, especially with only half the content worth your time. Had this been just the 5 best stories and a $5 or $6 price tag, I would have recommended it but. But unfortunately I can't for the $10 price tag.
