If you follow these five tips you’ll find yourself well on your way to making this holiday season about healing instead of staying stuck in pain. I’m not talking about how to rebuild your whole life, I’m talking about manageable, simple steps you can take to begin moving forward, rebuild your confidence and start working slowly but surely towards that new life.

The first tip is to make time for your emotions. If you’re spending the holidays alone for the first time after divorce, you should expect a wide range of feelings to come up. That’s okay. It’s healthy. It’s normal. Follow the advice on this tip to process those feelings in your body without growing them or getting overwhelmed by them.

The second tip I have for dealing with Christmas after divorce is to be honest with yourself, and kind to yourself. For example, if your ex invited you to the holiday meal... are you ready for that? Or are you only going out of guilt?

Step three is to honor the past, but don’t dwell on it. It's okay to spend A LITTLE time in the past. If you're struggling with the holidays as you’re starting over after divorce it's because you miss the beautiful parts of your marriage and having your family together.

Step four is to Focus on your Future. . This is a great time of year to set intentions for rebuilding and recovering from divorce, deciding who you want to be and what you want your life to look like.

Step five is to do something different. A lot of men tell me how hard it is, after losing everything, to start a new life. So don’t try to start a whole new life.
