Domaine des Tourelles was founded in 1868 by François-Eugène Brun, a French engineer stationed in Lebanon. François-Eugène’s grandson, Pierre Brun, inherited the winery and continued the winemaking tradition, introducing Lebanon’s first rosé in the 1960s, when the country at the height of its popularity, and Beirut was known as the Paris of the East.
The 1975-1990 civil war in Lebanon took its toll on the winery – and the industry as a whole – and it was a shadow of what it had once been when the guns fell silent. Today the winery is run by the next generation – making it the country’s youngest winemaking team running one of the oldest wineries.

Faouzi, 35,was not interested in going into the family’s winemaking business, but then decided to study winemaking in France in SupAgro de Montpellier where he earned his “Diplome National d’Oenologue” and then worked at two of France’s best known wineries, Domaine René Rostaing in Côte-Rôtie in the Northern Rhone and Médoc legend Chateau Margaux. Faouzi returned to Lebanon in 2008 and took up the reins at Domaine des Tourelles were his wines won international recognition, winning awards and being exported to over 20 countries.
