In 1995, Nissan built one of the rarest and most mysterious Skylines ever — the R33 GT-R LM.
A one-off road car created purely to homologate Nissan’s Le Mans entry, it was so exclusive that even Nissan’s CEO wasn’t allowed to drive it.

With its widebody, rear-wheel drive conversion, and detuned RB26DETT engine, the GT-R LM was built not for showrooms but to tick the FIA’s GT1 rulebook. Two race cars entered Le Mans in 1995, one finishing 10th overall behind the McLaren F1 GTRs. The other? Retired after gearbox failure.

The road-going version, registered in the UK, now lives locked away in Nissan’s DNA Garage — preserved like a sacred relic. It inspired the R33 GT-R LM Limited, but the true LM remains forbidden, untouchable, and legendary.

Today, with Nissan preparing a new GT-R — possibly based on the Hyper Force concept — the shadow of the LM still looms large. It was never built to win headlines. It was built to qualify for greatness.
