The easy, readable style of the Thirteen Lectures is in part due to its origin in around the year 1880.
The book was based on notes by shorthand writers of lectures given in Birmingham by Mr Robert Roberts, a prominent Christadelphian author and public speaker.
Their purpose was "to make known, in a simple and colloquial manner the meaning of the symbols exhibited to John in the Isle of Patmos, in their bearing on the events of history, and those mightier events in the near future to which they have all been leading".
