One of the few remaining challenges, Out of the Beginning of Exodus, laid dormant for years. This one eluded us since Reach’s release back in 2010. Now, over 10 years later, the case has been cracked. We came up with complex ideas in the past, boarding the falcon at the beginning, armor lock launch through the barrier, spawn bump etc. none of which worked to break the barrier at the start of Exodus. We even found a pressure launch between a light post and a wall that we thought, “Maybe when reach comes to PC the pressure launch would become more powerful due to 60fps and send us straight through the barrier.” That did not turn out to be the case.

A few days ago, Monopoli was testing some speedrun strats on Nightfall. He would armor lock on Jun’s head and a very curious thing happened. He rode Jun’s head, in armor lock and broke a barrier on Nightfall. After closer inspection, it wasn’t the power of the armor lock launch that sent him through the barrier, it was the act of riding on the AI’s head. Jun acted as a “portable phantom”. Because Jun, and all AI, aren’t affected by barriers, similar to phantoms/pelican/drops ships, you can just ride his head through the barrier.

With this knowledge, we turned to Exodus. A player couldn’t take Jun’s place since players ARE affected by barriers, instead we used…. the wheelchair. The freaking wheelchair. The same wheelchair we meme’d about being the key to breaking the beginning Exodus barrier for years.

The setup didn’t turn out to be super complex at all, we were (classically) overthinking the trick. You can now get out of exodus in like than 15 minutes, wow.
