Описание к видео Main Place Mall (CLOSED) - Raw & Real Retail

This is our walkthrough of the Main Place Mall in Buffalo, NY from June 24, 2019. This is an older property that used to serve as the only downtown mall in Buffalo. Today, it holds a very tiny handful of retail and a few offices, but much more empty space than used. Despite this, it has one of the best designed food courts I have ever seen. Not only that, but the food court is packed full. The main feature of this mall is its liberal use of old 1960s style globe lamps lining the upstairs corridor. It even reflects this on the sign as you enter from the food court side. This was a very interesting and awe-inspiring place to walk around.

Songs used in this video (in order):

Syd Dale - Latin Belle
Alan Hawkshaw - Fairway
Irving Martin & Brian Dee - Making The Action
Brian Bennett - Discovery
Steve Gray - Wonder Groove

In lieu of a wiki page, here is a small 2003 writeup by Jack Thomas of deadmalls.com:

http://www.deadmalls.com/malls/main_p...

This mall opened in 1968 as part of a downtown renewal effort and a means to add more office and retail space to the Downtown. The mall was located on the site of the former Adam, Meldrum, and Anderson store (AM&A's). They moved across the street in 1961. The mall really has no anchors. It was once anchored by Kobacker's, which later changed to Sattler's, but that space was turned into a food court on the upper level, and more stores on the lower level. The mall is now basically anchored by office space. There are some traditional stores left such as A-Dollar, a local shoe place, and an eyeglasses shop. Other mall tenants such as The Limited, Thom McChan shoes, and others, are all gone. Still, the mall continues to struggle forward.

There have been plans to revitalize parts of the mall but nothing has come to fruition yet. The only thing I can see revitalizing this property is [more] offices. To me, it's not really worth saving, because of the blight of the city.

I recommend a stop to this piece of retail history.
