This Elders Zoom session looked at the social and political background to what I call the Manchester Clearances. I don't call them "slum clearances" as that is a contested term. Much of the inner city housing in Manchester both before and after WW2 was in a very poor state, but the wholesale demolition of houses and communities was done with very little reference to the people who lived in them, and the pain of those clearances lives on to this day.
