Today, we bring you one of the biggest transformations in the history of the Indian Army’s physical standards —
BPT and PPT are now discontinued, and the new CPT-26 — Combined Physical Test 2026 — is officially implemented!
What is CPT-26 (Combined Physical Test 2026)?
The Indian Army has decided to implement the most comprehensive fitness reform in its modern history.
Under this new structure, the previously conducted BPT (Battle Physical Test) and PPT (Physical Proficiency Test) have now been merged into a single unified test —
the Combined Physical Test (CPT-26).
Effective Date: 1 April 2026
Official Letter Issued: 3 October 2025
This order brings new age-based categories, scoring systems, male-female parity, and most importantly,
your CPT marks will now directly impact your ACR (Annual Confidential Report) and future promotions.
Background – Why the Change?
You may recall, on 24 March 2025, Army HQ had issued an earlier circular about PT, BPT, and Route March standards —
introducing common physical parameters for both men and women personnel.
However, that policy was not yet fully implemented.
Then came Operation Sindoor, which highlighted the urgent need for faster, more agile soldiers —
combat-ready under high-pressure, drone-dominated environments.
To meet these modern operational demands, the Indian Army has now launched the CPT-26 —
a more scientific, comprehensive, and rank-inclusive physical assessment model.
CPT-26 Overview
Who It Applies To:
From Agniveers to Lieutenant Generals, CPT-26 applies to everyone —
except the Chief of Army Staff.
It will be conducted twice a year across formations.
Under CPT-26, your physical marks will directly influence your Annual Confidential Report (ACR).
That means your promotion, posting, and leadership opportunities will depend not just on office performance,
but also on physical capability.
This move ensures a fit, combat-ready leadership culture across all ranks.
Historical Context: From 1923 to 2026
From World War drills to modern drone-era challenges —
CPT-26 marks a century-long evolution of Indian Army’s physical excellence.
Who is Exempted?
CPT-26 does not apply to:
Trainees under Pre-Commission Training (PCTA)
Agniveers or recruits currently undergoing training
They will continue with existing PT/BPT/PPT tests till completion of training.
Operational Efficiency Test (OET)
Conducted annually as per Formation instructions.
Can be held at Unit/Sub-Unit level at the discretion of the Unit Commander.
Focuses on unit-level combat readiness and field performance.
