In Part 1 we looked at configuration and power settings when we can make our own descent profile to the airport, but what about when we can't?

In this case, we were cleared for the approach with 7 flying miles to go and about 3700 feet/60 knots to lose. A 528 ft/nm gradient or roughly 8.6% descent! At 140 knots groundspeed, that's an average descent rate required of more than 1,200 feet per minute!
