RAF East Kirkby and the USAF 1954 - 1958.

Описание к видео RAF East Kirkby and the USAF 1954 - 1958.

The distinguished wartime history of RAF East Kirkby is well documented.

This video focuses on perhaps the lesser known role the airfield played in the early stages of the 'Cold War' with the presence of the United States Air Force and in particular, Strategic Air Command (SAC).

Photo Credits: Imagery of the Base's facilities as taken from the 1957 edition of the SAC Handbook is of poor grainy quality. I have included a few contemporary photos of USAF personnel on a 'March Past.' Please note that these images are not East Kirby related (sourced from RAF Sculthorpe/Lakenheath Yearbooks) and are used purely to supplement this feature but they are relevant to the stated time period. I have used an image from the Public Domain Archive. Any other sourced image(s) used in this video where the original contributor is not known and therefore cannot be credited has been endorsed on the photo concerned with S/P. No infringement of personal copyright is intended.

Music Score: RAF March Past performed by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. Four Ruffles and the Stars and Stripes, The US Air Force Song, US Air Force Blue and the Grand Old Flag performed by the USAF Band.
