Greetings Everyone! Welcome back to my year long musical series called 12 months of Burt and Elvis! In this series, I cover one song every month off of Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello’s masterwork album, Painted from Memory.

It’s the month of March, and though it is one of the longer months of the year, I am performing the shortest song on the album! The song is called “I still have that other girl”, and for such a short song it still really packs a punch. Costello describes it as a condensed musical dialogue of ideas that were spilt very evenly between Bacharach and Costello. This is an expertly crafted song that weaves effortlessly through different sections while still maintaining brevity. Everything about this song is incredibly stunning. From the subtle beginning to the soaring conclusion of the brief chorus to the incredible modulation towards the end, this song has it all!

In fact, it was this song that well deservingly won a grammy for “Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals”! Fun Fact: Burt Bacharach (92 years young) and Daniel Tashian were recently nominated for Best Traditional Pop Album in this months Grammys! Their album is called Blue Umbrella, and it is an amazing collaboration that is worth checking out for sure.
