I came across John Shepherd when I watched his epic film John was contacting Aliens on Netflix, I instantly felt we have a lot in common which I could write a lot about, we soon became friends on Facebook, I then realised John has a passion for making music and experimenting with electronic synthesizers the same as myself so I suggested we did a collaboration and see where it takes us. John and I are very much in tune with nature, the universe and share spiritual connections and understandings alongside our passion for creativity and have reflected this in our music together, John sends me recordings of his vocal takes and works from ambient synth pads soundscapes that evolve to more complexed synth arrangements and these inspire me and I tune into his energy he felt during recording the works he creates. Alike John I have interests in all different kinds of music and over the years I have come to be able play many instruments and record and produce music of all different genres from across the world & create new and experimental songs free of limitations, this is how our Albums have become so diverse and allow for completely original works to come into being.
When I was a child I was fascinated with electronics, music and Sci-Fi films, anything to do with space. My father John Zarfas was a professional telescope maker and he also cut ground and polished all his optics to perfection creating some rather large telescopes some with primary lenses of up to 30’’ so we got to look at a lot of space, He was also a keen folk musician and still is to this day. I would make homebrew SW/FM radios and string antennas all across the garden, frequently playing my own guitar, questioning everything, always thinking outside the box and would dream of making ET Contact all before I was 10 Years old. So you can see how I found johns work fascinating.
PROJECT S.T.R.A.T unfortunately was in operation long before I got the chance to get involved however I felt it a cool idea to make an album with John in keeping with his work, its my way of connecting with his awesome project and efforts, but also a great theme for us to create fresh new musical ideas.
Cosmic connections was the 1st album idea that quickly took shape after a few initial tracks painted the theme and direction of where our music was taking us. I record mostly in 432hz and John is cool with this approach, It has been a great chance to make exciting new music and share our interests and perceptions of reality etc in our own music. This is sure to take you on a journey as much as it has us (:
While this is an enjoyable joint project I particularly pay homage and great respect to John and all of his efforts with his PROJECT S.T.R.A.T and in life in general, He is a wonderful man with a pure heart & a beautiful Soul, and I am glad to have had the opportunity to work with John on creating this album, to which is almost a musical biography of Johns life work in itself. Cosmic Connections was our 1st exploration into music together and this paved the way for the PROJECT S.T.R.A.T album 2nd to this one.
