Yunnan Provincial Museum is a cultural heritage museum in Kunming, China. Founded in 1951, it houses an exhibition focusing on ethnic minorities in Yunnan, as well as a collection of artifacts from tomb excavations in Jinning on the southern edge of Dian Lake.

The museum's collection includes hundreds of paintings, calligraphy, and other artifacts that once belonged to Gao Yunhuai, a former nationalist military officer. The artifacts were confiscated by the Red Guards in 1966, at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution.
Since it is a fairly large museum, it is wise to arrive early if you want to see as much as possible. Also, avoid coming here on weekends and national holidays or vacation periods. It is considerably crowded then and it is often a struggle to see anything, especially if there are several groups with guides on the floor.

Inside the entrance hall, there are lockers to store your bags and/or coats. There are even lockers for large suitcases. There are also special glasses for rent that provide text and explanations both audio and visually at certain designated places. Our experience was that it did not fully meet expectations and is only available in Chinese. There are audio tour recorders for rent that are available in various languages and work much better.
