Developers of early-stage solar and wind projects need a community engagement strategy in order to put their best foot forward and explain the benefits of these projects to local stakeholders. Emphasizing the robust economic benefits of renewable energy projects at an early stage can set the tone for further discussions and establish trust. Sometimes these economic impacts can be challenging to quantify at an early stage in the project's development. In this webinar, Timberly Ross, Bryan Loomis and Chris Thankan will explain how to incorporate the economic benefits into your community engagement plan.

Timberly Ross, Senior Director of Community Relations at Tenaska, will be speaking about the challenges that developers face when projects are at an early stage. She’ll discuss how a community engagement plan can help with those challenges. She will also present on how to communicate the economic benefits of a project, what questions arise from landowners/community members, and how she’s seen success in getting projects approved.

Bryan Loomis, SER Vice President, will speak about how to explain the economic impacts for projects that are at an early stage in development. He will introduce the preliminary analyses that SER offers and our methodology for property tax analysis. His presentation will compare and contrast the differences between our detailed study versus a preliminary study.

Christopher Thankan, SER Economic Analyst, will speak about how economic impacts are calculated for preliminary analyses, when many costs are unknown or uncertain at such an early stage of the project development. He will explain how to make conservative assumptions to arrive at results that are as accurate as possible.
