I have the Google Pixel 8 here and in today's video I'll be showing you how to boot this smartphone into Recovery Mode. Not only will this work for the base model that I have here, but the exact same steps will work for the larger Pixel 8 Pro as well.

Recovery Mode is a special boot mode included in virtually every Android device out there. Some people will naturally think that it's a way that we can recover important data like contacts, photos and videos.

But actually, the Google Pixel 8 Recovery Mode feature is only here to help you to restore the Android filesystem back to its original files.

So it can be a great way to fix your device if it ever begins bootlooping. . .or when you notice some strange bugs that are not a widespread issue.

Before we can access Recovery Mode, though, we first need to boot the smartphone into Fastboot Mode.
Now, I went over two different methods of doing that in yesterday's video.
So if you aren't familiar with how to do that, then I'll be sure to link to that tutorial down in the video description below.
However, we can also run the command adb reboot bootloader and that will also work.

Once you have the Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro in Fastboot Mode, we can then highlight the Recovery Mode option here.
And then press the Power button to select it.

The screen will then go black as it reboots out of that menu and takes us to a splash screen for Recovery Mode.
This isn't actually the recovery mode menu, and we will need to hold the power button down before pressing the volume up button to bypass it.

Now we are at the Google Pixel 8 Recovery Mode menu.
And just like with the previous menu, we can't interact with this using the touchscreen.

Instead, we need to press the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons until we highlight the option we want.
Then, when you want to select that option, we simply need to press the Power button.

There are a number of different things that we can do from Recovery Mode.
Including. . .

Rebooting back into Fastboot Mode - aka bootloader mode
Installing an OTA update via ADB
Installing an OTA update via the internal storage
Performing a factory data reset by wiping the data partition
Mounting the System partition
Viewing the Recovery Logs
And running some tests

If you had inadvertently booted into Recovery Mode. . .or whenever you're done with what you came here to do.
Then we need to make sure the Reboot System Now option is highlighted, and then we can press the Power button to select it.

As long as the OS is in good and working order, then we will see the Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro reboot out of Recovery Mode and back into Android.
