💬 Quote from Quino: “Big Mountain has spent a lot of time touring India and we fell in love with the culture. I knew that I wanted to write a song that the world could sing about India. At the time that I learned that vande mataram translated in English means, “vande” to solute , to praise or to bow to and “mataram” means mother ( I solute to you mother or I praise you mother), I knew that this lyric is what gives me the inspiration to sing. I had learned while touring India that India is often referred to as 'Mother India' due to the deep spiritual and cultural significance of the mother figure in Indian society. The term 'Mother India' is a symbol of the nurturing and caring nature of the country, as well as its role as the source of life and culture. For Indians all around the globe, their motherland represents more than a piece of land, they see India with the love, respect and awe of a real mother (“Maa”). Singing "Maa" feels like we are projecting an inspirational energy into the universe”.
