Black chana radish curry is a delicious Indian dish that combines the rich flavor of black chickpeas (also known as Bengal gram or Chana (काला चना)) with the mild spiciness of radish. This curry makes for a hearty and satisfying meal when served with steamed rice or roti. Here's a simple recipe to make black chana radish curry:
Serving - 4
Prep Time - 15 minutes (Black Gram (Chana soaked overnight))
Cook Time - 35 minutes
Ingredients:
3 tbsp Mustard Oil ((हींग))
1/4 tsp Asafoetida (हींग)
1 bay leaf (तेज पत्ता)
2 whole red chilli (साबुत लाल मिर्च)
1 tsp cumin seeds (काला जीरा)
2 inch cinnamon (दालचीनी)
2 black cardamom (काली इलाइची)
5 grated onions, medium size (कसा हुआ प्याज़)
2 tbsp Ginger-Garlic paste (अदरक लहसुन की पेस्ट)
1/2 tsp red chili powder (लाल मिर्च पाउडर)
1/2 tsp cumin powder (जीरा पाउडर)
1/2 turmeric powder (धनिया पाउडर)
1/2 tsp coriander powder (धनिया पाउडर)
1 tsp kashmiri chili powder
1 tbsp meat masala
3/4 cup Black Chana (काला चना)
200 GM Radish Sliced (मूली)
3 cups Water
Instructions:
1. Soaked Black Gram overnight.
2. Heat oil in a large pan or pressure cooker.
3. Add Asafoetida.
4. Add whole spices and let them splutter.
5. Add grated onion and saute until golden brown.
6. Add grated garlic & ginger, and saute them until the raw taste goes away on low-medium flame.
7. Add powdered spices, salt, and 2 tbsp of water, mix well, and saute masala until the oil separates.
8. Add the soaked black chickpeas and adjust the salt, mix well and cook until the oil separates.
9. Add sliced radish, 2 tbsp of water and cook for 8 to 10 minutes on low flame.
10. After 10 minutes, add the required water.
11. Pressure cook for 1 whistle on high flame then 6 to 7 flame on medium flame or till cooked
12. After the cooking time, check if the chickpeas and radish are tender. If not, cook for a few more minutes.
13. Serve hot with rice or roti.
