Originally named "Pupule," the Nui Nui cocktail was crafted by Don the Beachcomber in the mid-1930s. Famed for his secretive approach to cocktail recipes, Don went to great lengths to keep the ingredients of his concoctions under wraps, even from his own bartenders. The Nui Nui, later known as the "Desert Rattler" when served at the Aku Aku restaurant in the Stardust Hotel, Las Vegas, carries the mystique of its creator's clandestine mixology.
What captivates many about the Nui Nui is the infusion of cinnamon, vanilla, allspice, and clove from the Angostura bitters. This cocktail strikes a delightful balance, offering a light and refreshing taste reminiscent of summer, while its rich spices and flavors make it equally suitable for the chilly ambiance of winter, evoking the festive spirit of a American or European Christmas.

Recipe:
• To a cocktail shaker with ice add 1 ½ shots of gold rum.
• Add ½ a shot of dark rum.
• Add ½ a shot of lime juice (fresh is best but the limes on my tree aren’t ready yet).
• Add ½ a shot of orange juice.
• Add ½ a shot of All spice dram.
• Add ½ a shot of cinnamon syrup.
• Add ½ a shot of vanilla syrup.
• Add a dash of bitters.
• Put the lid on and shake.
• Strain into a glass.
• Fill glass with crushed ice.
• Ganish with a twisted orange peel and mint.
Bring out more of the mints smell and taste by slapping it a few times.
