In this video, we're talking about the simple secret to improving as a songwriting. To improve our songs, something important we absolutely must do is to do some intentional songwriting.

What is intentional songwriting? Well, it's the other important type of songwriting we should be doing besides inspirational songwriting.

Inspirational songwriting is when we follow our inspiration. We come up with a cool bass line from improvising and build a song off of it. We think of a great story to tell and write a song telling it.

Intentional songwriting is picking something specific to do with a song.

Maybe you realize you hardly ever write a song in 3/4 time, so you intentionally decide to push yourself by writing a song in 3/4.

Maybe you always strum your guitar chords and never have written a song built on finger picking your chords instead, so you intentionally decide to write a song that has finger picked guitar.

This is the heart of intentional songwriting. We specifically write with certain parameters in mind. Don't write enough minor key songs? Next song can be anything, but must be minor. Don't write enough songs about life and death rather than love? You can decide to write your next song about life and death.

This is the simple secret to songwriting improvement.
