Driving Sichuan Ya-Kang Expressway - Kangding to Ya'an

Ya'an-Kangding Expressway, referred to as Ya-kang Expressway.

At around 3:30 am on August 3, 2024, a bridge between tunnels collapsed due to a sudden mountain torrent and mudslide at the No. 1 and No. 2 tunnels of the Ya'an-Kangding Expressway from Kangding to Luding, causing vehicles to fall.

On August 19, 2024, the bridge between Ridi Tunnel No. 1 and Tunnel No. 2 in the Kangding-Luding section of the Ya-kang Expressway achieved emergency access and traffic capacity.

Yakang Expressway starts from Duiyan Town, Ya'an City in the east, passes through Tianquan County and Luding County, and ends at Lucheng Town, Kangding City in the west. Yakang Expressway connects to Chengya Expressway in the east, with a total length of about 135 kilometers; the Ya'an section is 89 kilometers, the Ganzi section is 46 kilometers, the roadbed width is 24.5 meters, the total estimated investment of the project is 23 billion yuan, the approved construction period is five years, and the altitude difference of the entire highway reaches 1,900 meters.

After the Ya'an-Kangding Expressway is put into operation, it will take nearly 4 hours to travel from Chengdu to Kangding, saving at least 2 hours compared to the original road trip. At the same time, the project has a bridge-tunnel ratio of up to 82%, making it one of the expressways with the highest bridge-tunnel ratio and the most difficult construction in the province and even the country.
