This video is about Hyundai WRC driver Craig Breen who was at the first two round of the 2021 The Ice Challenge with his own Yamaha YXZ1000R Side-by-Side vehicle. It's probably the second time I saw these buggies racing in person and I must admit they look so much fun to drive. The organizers of the Italian ice racing series decided to indroduce a category for them in the 2021 championship.

This Yamaha is powered by a 1000cc inline-3 engine with around 112 hp at 10,000 rpm and mated to a 5-speed sequential gearbox. The total weight of the buggy is around 700kg. Traction can be selected at will or utility and can vary from 2WD, 4WD or 4WD with Diff-lock. Craig's YXZ1000R seems to have a better and stronger upper roll cage, different side panels, a front windscreen, an Akrapovič exhaust and of course smaller studded tyres.

If track's layout looks kinda strange while you're watching this video that's because I put together both the clips I recorded on Saturday (Round 1) and the ones from Sunday (Round 2). Organizers decided to host the first two rounds of the season at the same location but with two layouts: for the first round they used the original, anticlockwise layout of the circuit while on Sunday they opted to slighly change some corners and running in the opposite way/clockwise.
