Seal In Tears After Rescue

Do seals cry after a rescue? We have never considered this reaction. Most of our rescued seals run straight back into the water, and we do not see them for a long time, if ever.
Weepy eyes are a natural reaction for seals on land. The moisture protects their eyes from drying out in the wind. But we also know we had to inflict much pain on this seal during the rescue. A thick fishing line with a hook had to be pulled out of his flesh. We do not want to humanize wild animals, but we also cannot shake off the sad feeling that we made a seal cry. 🦭
