Marine Le Pen explains why nationalism is important

Marine Le Pen is hoping for a boost in local elections next month. She has tapped into the anger of France’s anti-establishment yellow vest protesters, many of whom share her views on immigration and curbing the dominance of Paris over the provinces.

Her brand of nationalist populism remains toxic to many, but she has achieved a measure of success in rendering her party more palatable since taking over from her father nine years ago. She has distanced herself from his anti-Semitism and courts Jewish voters with promises of action against Islamist militants.
