In this video, I discuss the speech of Christophe Cardinal Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America. This talk, entitled "The Response of the Social Doctrine of the Church" was given September 13, 2025, and just recently became available. I thank Mike Lewis and Chris Hale for bringing this to our attention.

The focus of this video is on the contents of the Cardinal's talk. There are several points I wish to make. Post-liberalism is condemned. One can not reconcile it with the Church's doctrines, and to advance post-liberalism is to advance error and endanger one's soul. The Cardinal specifically recognizes (for condemnation) the works of Patrick Deneen, Adrian Vermeule, Rod Dreher, R.R. Reno and others. My understanding is that all of these were very upset by the Cardinal's remarks, but they persist in their error because they serve evil men and tyrants. All of these authors are rebels, revolutionaries, and must renounce their work.

Second, the Cardinal does not condemn Liberalism but rather notes its excesses. Liberalism is still the best system for building a good, righteous social order, including many different people and peoples. Liberalism is the model of social organization as it is a way to bring together diverse nations in peace and prosperity. As such, the Cardinal's speech reinforces the central tenets of Pacem In Terris and upholds America as the model of social organization.

Third, the Cardinal in stating the Catholic position upholds the dignity of the person, which is of central importance if there is to be a right ordered domestic society and a right ordered international society. Post-liberalism rejects the centrality of the person.

Other lessons we can draw from the talk. Catholics need to build bridges and not serve tyrants, or focus on identity politics, or create division in society. Catholics have to work in good faith and in good will with Jews, Moslems, Protestants, atheists, and others.
