Unboxing, Installation, and Setup of a Modern Flames Orion Traditional 36” Electric Fireplace

In this video, I am unboxing, installing, and setting up a Modern Flames Orion Traditional 36” Electric Fireplace into the firebox of an existing wood-burning fireplace. I am also using a 4" trim kit from Modern Flames to cover any gaps surrounding the electric fireplace when installed. I purchased both online from Woodland Direct.

The existing fireplace dimensions are 36" wide by 30" high. An electrician installed a dedicated 20-amp circuit (required for this unit) in the back of the fireplace, and we ran the wire inside flexible metal conduit down through the ash box to the ash pit and out to the circuit panel. I already have a flue cover / chimney cap at the top of the chimney, and I added a bead of putty around the closed damper to seal it from air/moisture in the flu.

Update Nov. 2024: I installed a second one of these this past weekend. After building the platform, I set the unit on the top of the platform and marked the exact location of the adjustable feet where they contact the platform. Then I used a 3/4 inch wood spade drill bit to manually drill four holes into the top of the platform to make cavities for the feet to sit in. I removed one of the feet from the unit and used that to help me gauge the depth of the holes I needed to drill. Then, when I set the unit back on top of the platform, the feet fit into the holes and I could slide the unit and the platform together back into the fireplace and move the unit for adjustment without having the unit slide off of the platform. This was a big help and was worth the extra step.
