In 2013, Kurt Squire and Constance Steinkuehler led the "Video Games and Learning MOOC" at University of Wisconsin - Madison. This video was part of that course.

Video games aren’t just fun, they can be powerful vehicles for learning as well. In this course, we discuss research on the kinds of thinking and learning that go into video games and gaming culture, benefits and drawbacks of digital gameplay, tensions between youth culture and traditional education, and new developments intended to bridge that growing divide.

We are Field Day, a game studio and education laboratory at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at the University of Wiscosnsin - Madison.

In 2013, we began an exciting new partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to collaborate with teachers to invent new playful technologies and a culture of teaching and learning to leverage them across the state. Since then we've build dozens of games, VR experiences and facilitated many Field Day Educator Fellowships.

Since then we have worked with some of the smartest researchers in the world like (IceCube, MRSEC and the scalable systems lab) to develop games that communicate complex science topics and research findings with the public. We see games as a new vehicle for high quality science communication and public engagement in science.
