How to Get Both Bomb Upgrades (First Quest) - The Legend of Zelda First Quest 100% Walkthrough

This video shows how to get both of the Bomb Upgrades that are available during the First Quest. They can be gotten in either order & they increase your bomb carrying capacity by 4 each (for a maximum total of 16). Both upgrades will cost you 100 Rupees each & are both found in dungeons. This video shows how to reach each upgrade under the assumption that you have not done any part of the dungeons. As such I show how to get the small keys that are needed to reach it. You might have already completed these dungeons either in part or whole so you may not have to do everything that I do. It's possible, however, that you may have already gotten a Small Key that I get in the video & used it on a different door. In which case you'll either need to find a different Small Key or buy 1 from the various shops throughout Hyrule. To see where these Small Key shops are then watch the video linked below.

Bomb Upgrade #1 (0:00): The first step is to go to Level 5. To reach it from the starting point go right 1 screen, up 5 screens, right 4 screens, up 1 screen, left 1 screen, & up 4 screens.
Alternatively if you are low on health then (from the starting screen) go right 1 screen, up 2 screens, right 1 screen, up 2 more screens to find a fairy. Then go down 1 screen, right 1 screen, up 2 screens, right 2 screens, up 1 screen, left 1 screen, & finally up 4 screens.

Once inside Level 5 go up 1 screen. Grab the key from the Gibdo & blow a hole in the left wall. Go left 2 screens so that you're in the staircase room with the several blue Darknuts. Kill them all then head down the stairs. When you pop back up go down 1 screen, grab the key in the Keese room, blow a hole in the right wall, then go through it. In this room will be an Old Man that offers to sell you the Bomb Upgrade for 100 Rupees.

Bomb Upgrade #2 (2:43): Bomb Upgrade #2 is in Level 7. To get into Level 7 you first need the Recorder/Whistle from Level 5. If you don't already have it it's very close to where the 1st bomb upgrade is. If you aren't already there then follow the directions to get to the 1st upgrade. If you already have the Recorder then skip the next paragraph.

From the room where you get the 1st bomb upgrade go left 1 screen, up 1 screen, & left 1 more screen. Kill all of the blue Darknuts in this room & push the block over to reveal a staircase. Go down the staircase, grab the Recorder, & go back to the starting screen.To quickly get back to the starting screen pause the game with controller #1 then switch to controller #2 & press up & A at the same time. Select "continue" to get to the dungeon's entrance then walk outside & do this again to get back to the starting screen. This trick also works on the Virtual Console versions of this game, but it differs some depending on what console you're playing it on.

Once you have the Recorder & are at the starting screen go up 1 screen, left 4 screens, up 1 screen, up 1 more screen if you want to visit the fairy then go back down 1 screen, left 1 screen, & up 1 more screen. You should now see a pond with a Moblin wandering around. Play the Recorder to drain the pond, revealing stairs that lead to Level 7.

In Level 7 go up 1 screen, left 1 screen, & down 1 screen. Grab the key then go up 3 screens to find an Old Man selling the Bomb Upgrade for 100 Rupees.
