Celebrating Silky Gem’s 2nd anniversary, I want to share our story.

It all started with my great-grandma. Born in 1919 in a family of 10, her life was very hard and poor. She did all types of jobs, from farming to labor work, to help her family. Cooking was her specialty, and she would carry seasonal food on her head to sell at the market.

Then there’s my mom, born in a family of 5 where she was the only girl, not allowed to go to school. Growing up poor, she taught herself how to read and write. She met my dad when she was 18, and after marrying into the family, she learned to make different types of food from my great-grandma.

She had 4 kids and I’m the youngest one, My favorite memory with my mom ang great grandma was during Lunar New Year, making all kinds of sweets, especially Crystal candy. I would sit by my great-grandma’s legs like a puppy, waiting for her to feed me the extra pieces. Despite our family’s struggles. I’m grateful to be here today, creating something amazing to support my family.

Though my great-grandma is no longer with us, I believe she’s in heaven, blessing me to carry on her legacy.
