My recent visit to South Dakota was an adventurous one. We road-tripped from Denver, Colorado, where we landed, picked up our rental, and headed north. Our first stop was one of South Dakota's most famous landmarks, Mt. Rushmore. The next day was followed by driving around the Black Hills, Custer State Park, and visiting waterfalls. On our last day, we went to Badlands National Park, where we caught the sunrise as we were driving in. We explored the viewpoints and did some hiking before we were back on the road and headed back to Denver to catch out flight home.

Crossing four states made for a lot of driving but saved us a lot of money on flights because the Los Angeles to Denver is so much cheaper than flying into Rapid City. Note to anyone wanting to make the visit to this part of South Dakota, if you don't mind the drive you'll save on flights by flying into a larger airport like Denver.
