The British Pacific Fleet arrived in Sydney, Australia, in early 1945 to an uncertain future. Some senior US naval commanders didn't want them in the Pacific. Others did. But the Royal Navy's unique characteristics and experience would secure Task Force 51 a key position on the USN's most exposed flank.
