Edge originally conceived the idea for The Judgment Day, aiming to transform Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest from flat babyface characters into formidable heels. Initially, the trio seemed promising, but fans struggled to boo Edge due to his nine-year hiatus from wrestling.

The plan was for Finn Balor to join the group and eventually turn on Edge after a year. However, this storyline was rushed, with Balor joining and turning on Edge immediately. Speaking on "Talk Is Jericho," the Rated R Superstar explained that the change was necessary for the group's progression.

Edge realized that the faction wouldn't reach its potential with him in it. His attempts to change his character and role were not what fans wanted. After Edge’s departure, Finn Balor, along with Ripley and Priest, successfully recruited Dominik Mysterio, propelling his and their careers to the next level.
