Cut Uruk Dungeon - Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy

Описание к видео Cut Uruk Dungeon - Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy

A very old map, given that it utilises long cut items, abilities, and a map with connections to even more cut maps. This is a partially reconstructed version of the Uruk Dungeon and its exterior using available recovered assets. I don't have a particular timeframe for when this map may have existed, but I think late 2002 is a safe bet.

Given how drastically different the game's design scope would've been at the time, we can't realistically say where exactly this map would've fit in with any certainty. However, if we compare elements between this map and the Hang Train level, we can see that both start outside (disregarding the scrapped Jail/retail catacomb, since every level pretty much started there). Both require some minor puzzle before the main map. Both end up in a version of Hang Train. I think if we were to try to fit this into the current layout of Sphinx, then this would certainly be the third Mummy visit. Since this visit rewards you with Ishka's Ring rather than the Medicine Bag, it would be fair to presume that Kemmet likely had a Medicine Bag, instead (preliminary dialogue from him mentions Healing Herbs were underwater, so finding protection from the eels could've been the intended objective. This is getting into speculation over long-scrapped ideas, so I won't digress further.)

It's unfortunate that the Stone Mummy ability doesn't work. I was only able to trigger it for a single frame, where a white status bar would appear then disappear within said frame. The skin for the ability is still packed with the Mummy's data, but as you can see from the preview I provided, it's very primitive in looks and lacks any kind of dedicated animation (I used MUMY_WALK_EXHAUSTED_A as a placeholder, but it looks fairly fitting regardless).

As seen with the text early on, it seems some of it was going to be colour-coded. This can already be seen if you load up the scrapped Jail level and talk to the prisoners; their colours are based on their accenting. I think that level is already known enough, perhaps, but I could showcase it for prosperity. I do want to cover more of the maps as I can, since it provides interesting insight on where the direction of the game was heading at any given time.

If the beta of Sphinx and its original plot are of interest to you, then I'd suggest taking a look at The Shadow of Set: Lost Worlds mod by jmarti856. Most of the maps have been taken and, cleaned up pieced back together, making the game more towards the originally intended plan:

(so i actually wanted to cover these maps when they were recovered back in late 2019 but uh... life and things... then i forgot about it for a while. the release of a review build for this game back in march 2021 reminded me to do this... but then uh... life and things... so yeah. anyway, i'll have a few more maps to show soon :))
