I just wanted to add this quickly before my next colored pencil review which will be up in the next day or so. I hope you enjoy it.

Recently I just purchased the Strathmore 400 Series Toned Tan Mixed Media pad and I really wanted to draw something that was going to put this amazing paper through its paces. I have used many times before the Toned Tan and Gray paper from Strathmore, however the Mixed Media Toned Tan is much thicker and much stronger paper, therefore the ability to withhold a lot more colored pencil layers. I have to say the Strathmore Toned Tan Mixed Media Paper is amazing and I really enjoyed using it for this piece.

I decided to try my hand at drawing Star Wars C3PO, the Gold droid all Star Wars fans love, however, more than anything it was the metallic surface that I wanted to challenge myself with. When I first started drawing I would hear other artists say to break down the subject into shapes and if there is any subject that portrays this theory perfectly it is metallic surfaces.

As well as the Strathmore 400 Series Toned Tan Mixed Media paper I used Caran d'Ache Luminance and Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. Originally I tried to draw the figure directly onto the Toned Tan paper, but erasing the graphite and then trying to use light yellows, creams and whites just made the drawing dirty looking. I ended up drawing the image on Strathmore Drawing Paper and then I used something I think I have only ever used once in my life and that was carbon paper, when I was a kid. However this was white carbon paper and it allowed me to place my sketch over the dark paper with the white carbon paper between the sketch and tan paper to simply transfer the image.

I have also added a page to The Art Gear Guide with still images of the drawing at various stages of completion.
