All engines use vacuum in some capacity. On older vehicles the carburetors were often designed with different vacuum ports to provide either straight manifold vacuum or delayed ported vacuum.

Follow along as I explain the differences, provide a quick way of figuring out which port does what, and also provide some info on Temperature Vacuum Switches.
