"Delivering Adirondack 25"

Adirondack 25, one of three surviving ALCo RSC2's, needed a new home. On display at Utica NY's Children's Museum for 34 years, the locomotive had to be moved since the Museum was being sold.

For a time, 25's future looked dim. As time dragged on, scrapping the old engine, an unattractive option, nevertheless became more likely. However, the Remsen NY Development Corporation wanted to display 25 at the Remsen Depot, 21 miles north of Utica. A GoFundMe page was organized and nearly $7000 was raised to cover the costs to move No. 25 to Remsen.

On Dec 30, 2020, Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern moved No. 25 up to Remsen. We catch the move north at Harbor Point Road, Utica, on the bridge over Old NYS Rt 49, Marcy, on the bridge over Olin Rd, Stittville, at the former NY Central passenger station in Holland Patent, ascending Remsen Hill, Prospect, crossing Pine St, Remsen, and conclude with switching activity at Remsen Depot.

The move was made at restricted speed (10 MPH).

A video made on Dec 16th shows the first day of efforts to move 25 off the Children's Museum    • "Saving Adirondack 25"   and a video made on Dec 18th shows 25 being trucked a short distance to a railyard    • "Highball 25!!!"
