Every now and then…I’m introduced to a soul track in which the lyrics and music just take my breath away! The classic 70s tune “In the Rain” happens to be one of them. I don’t know much about The Dramatics but, after listening to the passion in their music, you can’t say they were your average soul group back in the 70s. With songs like “Be My Girl”; and “Now You Got Me Loving You” coupled with “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get”; and “Hey You, Get Off My Mountain”… the Dramatics are anything but average and with their smooth R&B style they were destined to sustain themselves in the music business.

The man responsible for the Dramatics success over the years is also Founder of the group, singer/songwriter Ron Banks [RIP]. This version of “In the Rain” is a remix of the original cut, sung by Ron Banks and produced under the group’s name of “Ron Banks and the Dramatics” shortly before he died in 2010. The Dramatics originally formed in 1964 but it wasn’t until after releasing their first hit Billboard and Top R&B song “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get” in 1971 that they had become known. In addition to Ron Banks, the original members were William “Wee Gee” Howard [RIP]; Elbert Wilkins [RIP]; Willie Ford; and Larry Demps along with Keyboardist, James Mack Brown. Over the years, the members of the group would change. But despite the change in members, the group had much success in the late 1970s with several of their singles hitting the R&B and Pop music charts. In the early 1980s’, Ron Banks decided to pursue a solo career. The Group disbanded for a few years and then re-formed in the mid-80s. Today, the Dramatics can be found touring and singing at various music events with member(s) Larry L. J. Reynolds [Lead Singer], Winzell Kelly, Leon Franklin, and Donald Albert. The Dramatics were officially inducted into the R and B Music Hall of Fame on August 17, 2013.
