An attack occurred on a local church, June 22, 2025. During the Divine Liturgy, Mar Elias Church in Syria was targeted by a suicide bombing.

The attack caused many casualties and widespread damage.

“According to Syria’s Ministry of Health, the death toll from the bombing at Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in the Douailah district of Damascus has risen to 22, with 59 others injured. The attack happened during Sunday evening Mass, attended by nearly 400 worshippers.”
