A Parma Heights man was arrested Tuesday after police say he assaulted a woman and refused to leave a home while holding an 18-month-old child, prompting a SWAT response and a temporary school lockdown.

According to a release, Parma Heights police were dispatched to the 9800 block of West Ridgewood Drive after a third-party caller reported seeing a man assaulting a woman. When officers arrived, they located the victim and learned the couple’s 18-month-old child was still inside the residence with the suspect, identified as Taylor Radel.

Police said Radel was believed to be armed with a firearm and refused to comply with officers’ commands to exit the home. The Southwest Enforcement Bureau SWAT team was activated to assist as negotiators attempted to communicate with Radel.
