After a 2025 study suggested that when the next "Big One" hits the West Coast of the United States and coastal land could sink by up to several feet, we asked AI to show us what this could look like along the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

Apparently, a massive earthquake over a magnitude 8.0 could cause a tsunami like the one in Japan in 2011 and sink parts of the Pacific Northwest by several feet. That sudden drop would see millions of people, homes, and roads exposed to epic flooding.

The Cascadia Subduction Zone is the 700-mile fault that runs from northern California up to British Columbia, roughly 70 to 100 miles off shore. If you look at the final image of the map it shows the aftermath.

Subduction zones produce the biggest earthquakes in the world. They happen where one tectonic plate is sliding down another plate.
