The continuing adventures in the Valheim world we've have been running since Hearth and Home was released. All vanilla, no mods, survivor mode.

This is a bit of a combat & building video with magic against drakes & rebuilding a portal. Recording was made during patch 0.218.20.

I'm taking an extended break away from active prep and going more towards maintenance mode as I make my way towards another mysterious location.

There has been a busted portal at the first Howling Cavern that I have cleared and I wanted to correct that on the way to the Ashlands.

So, with Drakkar parked on the coast, I ran up the hill and stumbled on a drake nest. After dealing with the cold birds and marking the egg, I ran up the hill more and helplessly threw vines at wolves. It is a bit tricking aiming those vines up hill...

Anyway, once at base, I found a destroyed portal, which was quickly rebuild and reconnected back to base. I had set the location before I left.

The portal needed a roof this time, but the wood I brought with ran out quickly. With the portal reconnected, it was just a quick trip back to base for a stack of wood and then back through the portal.

Except a drake was attacking the portal as I came through! Thankfully, it didn't do too much damage, I think it mostly took out the stone floor... dang drakes...

I learned that you can block the frozen blasts with your fists. Which, of course you could since you can block with a shield, I just never thought to try...

With the drake dispatched again, I went back to the roof and extended it over the central bit of the fort. I used some rough fencing and a gate to close off the rest, but I'm mostly worried about the drakes. The roof should take care of that, but we'll see how long it lasts.

I've got to explore the rest of the Howling Cavern next... there was an entire corridor that I missed and I'm curious how much I left behind doing Hildir's quests.

Then I'll head south for the mysterious location...
